Robin Uthappa is an Indian cricketer who plays for Kerala in domestic cricket and for Chennai Super Kings in IPL. He was born on November 11, 1985 to Venu Uthappa and Roselyn Uthappa in Kodagu, Karnataka, India. He has an elder sister Sharon Uthappa.
His father Venu Uthappa is a former hockey umpire and also served as the president of the Karnataka Hockey Association.
His sister Sharon Uthappa is an certified Mental Health Therapist. She is also an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programmer) certified practitioner.
He studied at Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain Evening College, Bengaluru, Karnataka (Jain University).
He has represented team India in ODIs and T20Is.
Uthappa made his ODI debut against England at Indore on April 15, 2006. He scored 86(96) runs before getting run out. It was the highest score by an Indian debutant in an ODI match before KL Rahul broke his record by scoring 100* on June 11, 2016 vs Zimbabwe at Harare.
He was part of world cup winning Indian team at the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and played an important role in India's win in the world cup.
He was bought by Pune Warriors for a huge amount of USD 2.1 million (approx. ₹9.4 crores) in 2011 Indian Premier League auction held at Bangalore. He was the 2nd most expensive player in that auction behind Gautam Gambhir, who was bought for USD 2.4 million by Kolkata Knight Riders. Uthappa was Pune Warriors's top scorer by scoring 405 runs in 16 matches.
In January 2015 his mother Roselyn Uthappa registered a case against his father Venu Uthappa and two others for allegedly subjecting his mother to cruelty. The other two accused were Venu Uthappa's relative Calvin Varghese and his wife Manjushri.
Robin Uthappa got married to tennis player Sheethal Goutham on March 3, 2016. They have a son Neale Nolan Uthappa who was born on October 10, 2017.
Everyone in his family is a big fan of Christopher Nolan & there is an author called Neale Donald Walsch, Robin and his wife were very much impressed with Neale so they decided to name their son Neale Nolan Uthappa. Coincidentally Neale and Nolan mean the same thing - famous champion.
In the 2020 IPL Auction, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹3 crore.
In the 2022 IPL Auction, Uthappa was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for his base price of ₹2 crores.
He owns a coffee estate in Coorg, Karnataka.
