KL Rahul is an Indian international cricketer, who plays as a right-handed batsman and an occasional wicket-keeper. He represents Karnataka in domestic cricket and captains Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was born on 18 April 1992 to Dr. K. N. Lokesh and his wife Rajeshwari Lokesh in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He also has an elder sister named KL Bhavana, who is married to Yesh Jag..
Both of his parents are academicians. His father, Dr. K. N. Lokesh is a former professor & director at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal and his mother, Prof Rajeshwari Lokesh is a history professor at Mangalore University. 8
KL Rahul's father was a college-level cricketer and was a big fan of the cricketer Sunil Gavaskar so when Rahul was born, he decided to name him after Gavaskar's son but he mistook Rohan Gavaskar's name as Rahul. 9
He completed his High School at NITK English Medium School, Surathkal, and his Intermediate at St. Aloysius College & later graduated in commerce from Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College, Bengaluru.
He made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 11 April 2013 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru but did not get a chance to bat. 10
KL Rahul made his Test debut on 26 December 2014 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He made only 3 runs in the first innings and only 1 run in the second innings of his debut test match. 11
In the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season, he became the first-ever Karnataka batsman to hit a triple century in first-class cricket by scoring 337 runs against Uttar Pradesh.
He made his One Day International debut (ODI) on 11 June 2016 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. He batted as an opener and scored an unbeaten 100*(115), thus becoming the first Indian cricketer to score a century on ODI debut. 12
He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut on 18 June 2016 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club but was out on a golden duck. 13
In his 20th international innings, he scored his maiden T20I century against West Indies and became the fastest player to score centuries in all three formats in international cricket, surpassing the record of Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad who took 76 innings. In the same innings, he became the first player in T20I history to score a century while batting at number 4 position or lower and also became the only player to reach his century with a six in all formats. 14
KL Rahul became the first Indian batsman and 10th player overall to be dismissed via hit-wicket in the T20 internationals in March 2016. 6
In 2017, he made a world record for scoring the most fifties in consecutive innings by scoring 50+ score in 7 consecutive innings. 3
He was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the 2018 IPL Auction for a whopping INR 11 crores. In the team's first match of the season, he blasted the IPL's fastest half-century off just 14 balls against Delhi Daredevils. 7
