| KN Prudhviraj came into the centre of controversy in February 2024 after Hanuma Vihari announced on Instagram that he had decided to never play for Andhra again. He blamed the humiliating treatment that he received at the hands of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy as the reason behind his decision. 6 In an Instagram post Vihari wrote, “I was the captain in the first game against Bengal, during that game I shouted on the 17th player and he complained to his dad (who is a politician), his dad in return asked the Association to take action against me. Although, we chased 410 against last year’s finalists Bengal I was asked to resign from captaincy without any fault of mine. I never said anything on a personal note to the player but the association thought that player was more important than the guy who gave his body on the line last year and batted left-handed, took Andhra to knock outs 5 times in the last 7 years and played for India in 16 tests. I felt embarrassed but the only reason I continued playing this season was because I respect the game and my team.” 7 Though Vihari didn’t reveal the name of that 17th player, Andhra wicket-keeper batter KN Prudhviraj, whose father Kuntrapakam Narsimha is a YSRCP politician, responded through his Instagram story. He wrote, “I am that guy you are searching in that comment box. Whatever you guys heard is false, no one is higher than the game and my self-respect is much bigger than anything. Personal attacks and vulgar language are unacceptable on any platform. Everyone in the team knows what has happened that day. Play these sympathy games, however you want.“  The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) also issued a statement claiming that the decision to replace Vihari as captain was taken by the chairman of the selection committee due to Vihari’s status as an India prospect affecting his season-long availability. ACA also alleged that they received multiple complaints regarding Vihari’s abusive behaviour and use of foul language from his teammates, support staff and ACA administrators. | |
