Childhood Picture | |
Vyshak Vijaykumar is an Indian cricketer who plays as a Right-arm medium bowler for Karnataka in domestic cricket and for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He was born on 31 January 1997 to Vijay Kumar and his wife Brunda Vijay in Bengaluru, Karnataka. 1
He studied at BET Convent School located in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka. 2
His father, Vijay Kumar was his first cricket coach and he quit his transferable corporate job to settle in Bengaluru so that Vyshak could practice regularly. His mother, Brunda Vijay, who was working in a private firm as HR at that point, took the responsibility of being the chief breadwinner and also went on to become the director of the company as well. 3
Former Indian fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun also played a big role in Vyshak’s cricket career and has been helping him with guidance and coaching. 3
He initially aspired to be an opening batsman. However, when he was 17 years old, he joined Basavanagudi Cricket Academy where his coach used to taunt him for being overweight and said that he couldn’t bowl fast. Determined to prove his coach wrong, Vyshak began to bowl occasionally and started enjoying it. Soon, he evolved into a fast bowler. 4
His idols while growing up were Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble. 2
He made his List A debut for Karnataka against Odisha on 24 February 2021 at Alur in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy and took one wicket, conceding 35 runs in his 7 overs. 6
He made his debut in first-class cricket for Karnataka against Railways at Chennai on 17 February 2022 in the 2021–22 Ranji Trophy. In his Ranji debut, he went wicketless in the first innings and took 2 wickets in the second innings. 7
During the 2022-23 season, Vyshak emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming 15 wickets, and was also the joint-leading wicket-taker for his team in the Ranji Trophy, taking 31 wickets. 3
Vyshak was part of the IPL 2023 auction but didn’t receive any bids. However, on 7 April 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Vijaykumar Vyshak as a replacement for the injured Rajat Patidar for the remainder of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). 8
He is a dog lover and has a Siberian husky pet dog.
He made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Delhi Capitals at Bengaluru on 15 April 2023 in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The debutant was impressive against Delhi Capitals as he cleverly mixed his lengths, varied his pace, and bowled a perfect knuckle ball with an upright seam and took the DC batters by surprise, picking up three crucial wickets of David Warner, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav, conceding just 20 runs in his four-overs, and helped RCB defeat DC by 23 runs. 9 |
