On 3 November 2022, the teaser of Adah Sharma's upcoming film "The Kerala Story" was released. Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the movie features Sharma in the role of Shalini Unnikrishnan, a Hindu Malayali nurse who was converted to Islam and recruited to ISIS before ending up in an Afghan jail. She identified herself as one of the roughly 32,000 Hindu and Christian girls from Kerala who were recruited to ISIS after being converted to Islam.

Ever since the trailer of The Kerala Story was released on 26th April 2023 it has sparked controversy and has been the subject of heated online debates and criticisms. Some people support the film for shedding light on the much-ignored issue of forced conversions in Kerala, while others criticize the makers of the film, claiming that its story is entirely fabricated and that it serves as a propaganda film promoting the Sangh Parivar's agenda.

A petition was filed with the Supreme Court seeking to halt the film's release, which is scheduled for May 5, 2023. However, on Tuesday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain the request. 9

In addition to Adah Sharma, "The Kerala Story" also stars Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani.
