Her parents named her Parineeti after they saw Prakash Jha’s movie Parinati (1989) based on a folk tale from Rajasthan and fell in love with it. 2
Parineeti did her schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Ambala. She was an outstanding student since childhood and was even awarded the President’s Medal by Pratibha Patil for securing the first position in Economics across India in SSC exams.
She always wanted to become an investment banker so after completing her schooling, she moved to England, where she graduated with a triple honor’s degree in business, finance, and economics from Manchester Business School. While studying, she worked part-time for the Manchester United Football Club as the team leader of the catering department. Parineeti had to return to India during the 2009 economic recession as there were no jobs for bankers. She joined Yash Raj Films as a PR consultant in the marketing department. 3
Her father, Pawan Chopra is a businessman and worked as a supplier to the Indian Army at Ambala Cantonment. 4
Actresses Priyanka Chopra, Meera Chopra, and Barbie Handa are her cousin sisters.
She made her acting debut in a supporting role in the 2011 film ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’ starring Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. Her portrayal of the rebellious and independent girl Dimple Chadda garnered critical acclaim, earning her several awards, including the Filmfare Award, the Screen Award, and the IIFA Award for Best Female Debut.
Parineeti was next seen in a leading role opposite Arjun Kapoor in Ishaqzaade (2012) which was a critical and commercial success, earning her a Special Mention at the 60th National Film Awards.

In 2014, she appeared alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Adah Sharma in the romantic comedy-drama film ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ directed by Vinil Mathew, and it was also a commercial success at the box office. However, her other two 2014 releases ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’ opposite Aditya Roy Kapur and ‘Kill Dil’ alongside Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar and Govinda received mixed reviews and failed at the box office.
In 2015, Parineeti Chopra was roped in as the brand ambassador for the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign to promote the cause of girl child by the Haryana government. However, there were some reports in 2019 claiming that Chopra was dropped as the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign’s state brand ambassador after she tweeted against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Later, the spokesperson of the Women & Child Development Ministry of the Haryana government clarified that the MOU signed with the actress was for one year only and it was not renewed after April 2017. 5 6 7
