She studied at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai but left studies after 9th grade to pursue an acting career.
Divya made her acting debut at the age of just 16 years with telugu film Bobbili Raja (1990) opposite Venkatesh. The film was a box-office success and was declared an 'All Time Blockbuster'.
She made her hindi film debut in Rajiv Rai's Vishwatma (1992). "Saat Samundar" song of the movie was a big hit.
After that she went on to star in hit movies like Shola Aur Shabnam (1992) and Deewana (1992).
Divya Bharti was introduced to Sajid Nadiadwala by Govinda while working on the set of Shola Aur Shabnam (1992). They fell in love and started dating each other.
Divya Bharti and Sajid Nadiadwala got married on May 10, 1992 in a private ceremony and converted to islam after marriage and took name Sana Nadiadwala. The marriage was kept a secret so that her film career does not get affected.
Divya Bharti died at the age of just 19 years on April 5, 1993 after falling from the balcony of her fifth floor apartment at the Tulsi buildings in Versova, Mumbai.
Two of her movies Rang (1993) and Shatranj (1993) were released after her death.
She was replaced in many movies which were not complete, like Sridevi in Laadla (1994), Raveena Tandon in Mohra (1994) and Dilwale (1994), Tabu in Vijaypath (1994), Mamta Kulkarni in Andolan (1995), Juhi Chawla in Kartavya (1995), Kajol in Hulchul (1995) and Pooja Bhatt in Angrakshak (1995).
Dev Anand's Chargesheet (2011) was loosely based on her death and the mystery surrounding it.
She was offered lead role in Gunahon Ka Devta (1990) but her parents didn't permit her as they thought that she is too young to work in the movie. After that the role went to Sangeeta Bijlani.
Govinda's brother Kirti Kumar spotted Divya at a video library and signed her for Radha Ka Sangam (1992) opposite Govinda but was later replaced with Juhi Chawla due to her childish nature.
