He did his schooling at Bishop Cotton School in Nagpur and later graduated from Dr. Ambedkar College, Nagpur. Nalkande was good in studies and was always among the top 3 in his school and has also finished third at the Abacus National-Level Competition in 2008.
His parents enrolled Darshan and his elder brother Gaurav at the Akola Cricket Club (ACC) for a one-month summer camp. The coaches at the ACC spotted the talent in the Nalkande brothers and called their mother Sapna Nalkande and told her that both Darshan and Gaurav are very talented and they want them at the ACC for year-round training. 3
Initially his parents were slightly skeptical about cricket but after Darshan was selected in Vidarbha Cricket Association’s (VCA) Residential Academy their doubts vanished. Darshan benefited a lot from his time at VCA’s Residential Academy as there were special coaches for everything and they also used to look after his diet, fitness and training.
Darshan Nalkande made his List A debut for Vidarbha against Maharashtra on 2 October 2018 during the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In his debut match, he left a remarkable impression. Nalkande bowled with great precision and claimed two crucial wickets, conceding just 26 runs in his seven-over spell, and helped Vidarbha limit Maharashtra to a total of just 205 runs. Later, when he came out to bat at no.9, Vidarbha was struggling at 123 for 7, still requiring 83 runs to secure the victory. However, Nalkande played an outstanding inning, remaining unbeaten at 53 runs off just 30 balls, striking five sixes and one four. His incredible performance guided Vidarbha to a three-wicket triumph over Maharashtra. 4
He made his first-class debut for Vidarbha against Maharashtra on 1 November 2018 in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. 5
In November 2018, he was bought by the Punjab Kings for INR 30 lakhs in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL). He was with the Punjab Kings team from 2019 to 2021 but never played a game. 6
