Bhuvneshwar Kumar is an Indian international cricketer, who plays as a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is often regarded as the king of swing for his ability to swing the ball both ways.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was born on 5 February 1990 into a Gurjar family to Kiran Pal Singh and his wife Indresh Singh in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He also has an elder sister named Rekha Adhana who is 7 years elder than him and is now married and settled in Delhi.
His father, Kiran Pal Singh was a retired sub-inspector in the Uttar Pradesh police, and his mother, Indresh Singh is a Homemaker. The Gurjar boy’s family has roots in Luharli Village in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
Bhuvneshwar did his schooling at Translam Academy International in Ganga Nagar, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He joined a cricket academy when he was in 8th standard and played for Uttar Pradesh’s under-15 team when he was in 10th standard. 1

His elder sister Rekha Adhana played a big role in his cricket career. She used to take 13-year-old Bhuvneshwar to the Bhamashah Cricket Academy in Meerut which was about 7 to 8 kilometers away from their residence till he was able to go by himself. 2
He also credits his coaches former UP wicketkeeper Vipin Vats and Sanjay Rastogi for playing a big role in his career. 2
In his 11th first-class match, bhuvi became the first bowler to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in domestic first-class cricket, in the 2008-09 Ranji Trophy final. 3
His sister, Rekha Adhana got married in 2009 but Bhuvneshwar could not attend the wedding as he was playing domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh. 2
Bhuvneshwar showed his batting prowess in the 2012-13 Duleep Trophy semi-final. North Zone had scored 451 in the first innings and Central Zone’s score was 219-6 when he came in at No. 8 with 233 still to get in that innings, Bhuvi added 127 runs with Rituraj Singh for the last wicket and scored his maiden first-class century (128) and helped Central Zone defeat North Zone on 1st innings. 4
He made his T20I debut against Pakistan at Bengaluru on 25 December 2012. Bhuvi picked up three early wickets of Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal to give his team a glimmer of hope while defending a small total of 133. Although India lost the match but gave an account of his bowling prowess by picking 3 wickets while giving away only 9 runs in his 4 overs. 5
Bhuvi made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Chennai on 30 December 2012. He took 2 wickets in his 9 overs while giving away only 27 runs. 6
He made his Test debut against Australia on 22 February 2013 at Chennai. He bowled only 13 overs in the entire match, all in the first innings but made a composed 38 runs batting at No. 10 and stitched a 140-run partnership with MS Dhoni and in the process helped his captain make a double century. 7
Bhuvneshwar Kumar got married to his childhood friend Nupur Nagar on 23 November 2017 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The couple was blessed with a baby girl named Acsah on 24 November 2021. 8

His father, Kiran Pal Singh passed away on 20 May 2021 at his Meerut residence. He was 63 years old and was suffering from liver cancer. 9
In October 2022, he became the first Indian to bowl consecutive maiden overs in T20 cricket when he bowled two maidens and picked up one wicket against the Netherlands in the ICC T20 World Cup. 10
He is the only bowler to take wickets on his first ball in T20I & ODI Debut matches, both against Pakistan.

IPL Career
In October 2008, he was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore as injured Jesse Ryder’s replacement for the Champions League Twenty20 and made his T20 debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Delhi Daredevils on 17 October 2009 at Bengaluru in the Champions League Twenty20. He was purchased by RCB for a mere INR 6 lakh. 12 13

RCB released Bhuvi in 2011 and he was picked up by the now-dissolved Pune Warriors India for INR 20 lakh. 14

In the 2014 IPL Auction, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 4.25 crores. 15

In IPL 2016, Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the purple cap winner with 23 wickets in 17 matches and played a big role in Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the title. 16

After a woeful IPL 2021 season in which he could pick only 6 wickets in 11 matches, Bhuvneshwar was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad but they bought him again for INR 4.2 crores in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. 17
