Matt Turner is an American International footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for United States national team & Premier League club Arsenal FC.
Matt Turner was born on 24th June 1994 to Stuart Turner and Cindy Turner in Park Ridge, New Jersey, United States. He has 2 elder sisters, Michelle Turner and Kelly Turner.
His mother, Cindy Turner is a Catholic and was an softball player while growing up in Westwood, New Jersey and she still plays for an over-50 team which competes nationally. She had also coached Matt's elder sisters in softball. 8
Turner's father's family is Jewish and his paternal great-grandmother fled from from Lithuania due to religious persecution during World War II. His surname Turner was Anglicized from Turnovski to Turner at immigration. 9
His sister, Michelle Turner works as a frontline nurse in New York City and was on the frontline when the coronavirus pandemic started in the city. She was earlier an operating room nurse but her operating room was converted into an ICU to help the fight against COVID-19. 10

Matt attended Saint Joseph Regional High School, a catholic school in Montvale, New Jersey and graduated from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut in 2016. He played for Fairfield Stags during his college days at Fairfield University and made a total of 39 appearances for the Stags. He also played in the Premier Development League (PDL) for Jersey Express and led his team to the PDL semifinals in 2014.
Turner signed a professional contract with the Major League Soccer (MLS) club New England Revolution on 3rd March 2016 following a successful preseason trial. On 29th April, he joined USL club Richmond Kickers on loan and made his professional debut a day later in a 1–0 victory over Toronto FC II.
Matt made his MLS debut on 3rd March 2018 for New England Revolution against Philadelphia Union. He made four saves in a 2–0 loss to Philadelphia Union.
Matt and his father Stuart both obtained Lithuanian passports in 2020. Although Matt wanted to be in the United States but he also wanted to have an option of moving to Europe incase his dream of playing for United States national team don't materialise.
Turner made his international debut for United States national team on 31st January 2021 against Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly match.
He was awarded the 'Best Goalkeeper' of the tournament in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He was named as the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021. 11
In January 2022, Major League Soccer (MLS) club New England Revolution sold Turner to Premier League club Arsenal FC for a record transfer fee of $7 million plus additional add-ons of $2 million and other incentives. This deal made Turner as the second most expensive goalkeeper ever sold by an MLS club just behind his fellow US men's national goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who was sold for a deal worth $7.5 million by Columbus Crew FC to Manchester City in 2019. 12
In June 2022, After joining Premier League club Arsenal, Turner revealed that his sister had a huge crush on French footballer Olivier Giroud. 13

Matt Turner started dating Ashley Herron, a fitness trainer and a former NFL cheerleader in 2020 and after two years of dating tied the knot in 2022 in a private wedding ceremony. They couple was blessed with a baby boy, Easton Turner on 29th June 2022. Ashley is also the founder of a non-profit organization named 'Miss Pink Organization', which supports breast cancer survivors.
