| Gagan was born into a Hindu Jat family on 16 August 1993 to Devinder Singh Riar and his wife Raj Kanwal Riar in Pathankot, Punjab, India. He has an elder sister named Sonika Riar and an elder brother named Karan Riar. | |
| His brother, Karan Riar is a Choreographer with 20 years of experience in the Mumbai Film Industry and has choreographed for the movie For Here Or To Go (2015) starring Ali Fazal, Omi Vaidya, and Melanie Kannokada Chandra. He has also worked as an assistant choreographer for movies such as Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Kisna (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), I See You(2006), Yuvvraaj (2008), and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi(2008). 1 Karan Riar founded the Riar Academy Of Performing Arts (RAPA) with his wife Meera Sarkar Riar in 2012.
