Suzanne was born on 26 September 1982 to Michael Bernert and his wife Monika Bernert in Detmold, Germany. She also has a brother named Philippe Bernert. 2
Her brother, Philippe Bernert is married to Eva Bernert and works as an EDA System Administrator at Sick AG. 3
She is a trained ballet dancer.
She wanted to become an actress from a very young age and used to work with her parents in puppet plays, dramas, and ballet recitals. In addition to German, she also speaks French, Italian, Spanish, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and English language. 4
At the age of 19, she completed a three-year acting course under the guidance of noted German actress Heidelotte Diehl in Berlin, Germany and later did a two-week intensive workshop in Berlin with American producer and acting coach Susan Batson, who has trained leading Hollywood actresses like Nicole Kidman, Juliette Binoche, and Julia Roberts.
She began her acting career with a minor role of a foreign journalist in the 2002 South Korean film ‘Champion’ directed by Kwak Kyung-taek.
Bernert was all set to make her big screen debut as a female lead opposite Mahesh Shahdadpuri in Anant Duseja’s film ‘Destined Heart’, which was shot entirely in Dubai in 2003 but it never released. 5
She made her bollywood debut with Stop! (2004) directed by Ajai Sinha and starring Rocky Bhatia, Dia Mirza, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Ishita Arun, and Gauri Karnik. 6 7
She was in Dubai with her then-husband, who worked in the hospitality industry when she met director Ajay Sinha and he offered her the role of Catherine in ‘Astitva…Ek Prem Kahani’. 8
Bernert made her television debut in 2005 in Zee TV’s popular show ‘Astitva…Ek Prem Kahani’ as Catherine.
Suzanne Bernert shot to fame in 2006 after playing the role of Doris Bajaj in Star Plus’s popular show ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’.
She took Hindi lessons from diction coach Vidhur Chaturvedi, the same person who also taught Katrina Kaif and Yana Gupta. 9
Suzanne met Akhil Mishra while auditioning for a TV Show. Akhil was at that time looking for a foreigner to do a role in his play and the love blossomed between the duo. They worked together in Doordarshan’s television show Mera Dil Diwaana (2007) and short films Kram (2012) and Majnu ki Juliet (2019). 9
Suzanne Bernert tied the knot with Indian actor Akhil Mishra in a civil court on 3 February 2009 and the couple married again in a traditional way on 30 September 2011. Akhil Mishra was widely recognized for his portrayal of librarian Dubey in the movie 3 Idiots (2009). Akhil was earlier married to actress Manju Mishra, who died in 1997. 10

She participated in the Marathi celebrity dance reality show ‘Dholkichya Talavar’ in 2011 and reached the semi-finals. 11
She was approached to enter Bigg Boss season 6 in 2012 but the things didn’t materialise. 12
In 2012, she played the lead role of Suzanne William in the Marathi film ‘Dusarya Jagatli-from Another World’ directed by Satish Randive. The film based on female foeticide was screened at the first Indian Berlin Film Festival and also won the Best Social Film award at the Maharashtra State Film Awards 2011.
She starred in the short film Padharo India (2013) to promote Jaipur Tourism.
She portrayed Sonia Gandhi in the movie The Accidental Prime Minister (2019) & in the television series Pradhanmantri (2013) and 7 RCR (2014).

Suzanne and her husband Akhil have a YouTube channel named “Suzanne & Akhil | Indian Foreigner Couple”. 16
Suzanne ran a theater group called ‘Vijeta’ with her husband Akhil.
In early 2023, Suzanne revealed that her husband Akhil Mishra put his career on hold to help her learn Hindi so that she could get better roles in Hindi films. Suzanne said,
All the characters that I played were foreigners who needed an accent. Fluency suddenly became an issue with my show Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, as I needed to be perfect, and my husband gave all his time and put his career on hold to help me on a daily basis to speak shudh Hindi.17
Her husband, Akhil Mishra died on 21 September 2023 at the age of 67 after he accidentally slipped from a stool in the kitchen when there was nobody at home. The actor was unwell for some time due to blood pressure-related issues. Suzanne was in Hyderabad for a shoot when the incident happened. 17
