Aamir Khan is an Indian actor, director and producer who works in hindi language movies. He is one of the most successful bollywood actors and is one of the three Khans that ruled Bollywood in the 90s. The other two are Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Aamir is often referred to as Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood.
Aamir was born on March 14, 1965 to film producer Tahir Hussain and his wife Zeenat Hussain in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He has a younger brother Faisal Khan & two younger sisters, Nikhat Khan Hegde and Farhat Khan Datta. He also has a step-brother Hyder Ali Khan who is son of his father's second-wife Shanaz Hussain from her first marriage.
He did his primary education at J.B. Petit School, then moved to St. Anne's High School to study till 8th standard and completed his 9th and 10th from Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai. He completed his Intermediate from Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai.
He was an average student in school and was more into sports and dramatics. He was a state-level champion in Tennis.

His first appearance on screen was as a child actor in Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain. After that he also appeared in Madhosh (1974) produced by his father Tahir Hussain.

Aamir Khan made her bollywood debut as an adult in low-budget experimental film Holi (1984) and rose to stardom with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) directed by his cousin Mansoor Khan. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his acting in the movie and also earned Special Mention at the National Film Award for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) & Raakh (1989).

Aamir Khan along with his co-star and former brother-in-law Raj Zutshi went on roads to stick the posters of his movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) on the buses and auto-rickshaws in Mumbai.
He established himself as a leading actor in the film industry with films like Dil (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Rangeela (1995), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Ishq (1997), Ghulam (1998), Sarfarosh (1999), Lagaan (2001), Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Rang De Basanti (2006), Fanaa (2006) and Taare Zameen Par (2007).
He founded his own production house, Aamir Khan Productions in 1999. First film from his production house was Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001) which was written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Lagaan was produced on a budget of ₹25 crores and was one of the most expensive Indian film at the time of its release. The film was a critical and commercial success earning ₹65 crores at the box-office. It became only the 3rd indian movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988).
Aamir made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par (2007). The film explores the life of an 8-year-old dyslexic kid Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi and Aamir played the role of his new art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh who helps him to overcome his reading disorder. The film won him the Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director.
His movie Ghajini (2008) directed by A. R. Murugadoss became the first hindi film to earn more than ₹100 crores in india.

In 2009, he played the role of Ranchhoddas "Rancho" Shyamaldas Chanchad a.k.a. Phunsukh Wangdu in the movie "3 Idiots". The film was a massive critical and commercial success. It earned more than ₹400 crores at the box-office and is considered to be one of the greatest bollywood movies ever made. 3 Idiots (2009) was big success in China also.
In 2016, Khan played the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in the movie "Dangal". He gained 28 kgs of weight to portray the older version of Phogat before losing 25 kgs of weight to play the younger version. Dangal was a big commercial success and became the highest-grossing Indian film of all time by earning more than ₹2000 crores at the box-office.

He also hosted the television talk show Satyamev Jayate (2012-14) for which he was paid a whopping ₹3 crores per episode.
Aamir Khan got married to Reena Datta on 18 April 1986 and has a son, Junaid Khan and a daughter, Ira Khan with her. They filed for divorce on 9 December 2002.
He met Kiran Rao on the sets of Lagaan, where she was assisting Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir got married for the second time to Kiran Rao on 28 December 2005 and their son Azad Rao Khan was born through a surrogate mother on 25 November 2011. The couple announced their separation via a joint statement on 3 July 2021.
He avoids Indian film award ceremonies except the National Film Awards because according to him "Indian film awards lack credibility".
His ex-wife Reena Datta did a cameo in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988).
In 2005, A Stardust Magazine report claimed that Aamir Khan was in a live-in relationship with british journalist Jessica Hines and he has also fathered a love child with her named Jaan. According to the report, Hines who was in India to work on Amitabh Bachchan's autobiography titled 'The Big B: Bollywood, Bachchan and Me' met Aamir on the sets of "Ghulam" and both fell in love with each other and started living together. Jessica Hines got pregnant with Aamir's child during their relationship but he wanted Hines to abort the child but the journalist called it quits and reportedly gave birth to a baby boy in 2003 and named him Jaan. Although, Jessica has never publicly accepted it but also has never denied it.

In 2007, he turned down an offer to have his wax statue at Madame Tussauds. He said,
"It's not important to me... people will see my films if they want to. Also, I cannot deal with so many things, I have bandwidth only for that much."
His father Tahir Hussain passed away on 2 February 2010.
In March 2015, he stated that Kiran Rao influenced him to quit non-vegetarian food and turn vegan.
In 2015, Aamir Khan got in a controversy after he expressed his and Kiran Rao's feelings about rising intolerance in India at an event in New Delhi. Following this he was dropped as the brand ambassador of Incredible India initiative in 2016.
Aamir was offered the role of Rahul Mehra in Darr (1993) and Vicky Arora's role in Yalgaar (1992) but he turned them down.
He does not charges any upfront fees for acting in movies and instead takes a share in the profits.

Kiran Rao revealed on Karan Johar's chat show "Koffee With Karan" that hates taking a shower and has an eating disorder. Aamir defended himself saying, "I do take a bath when I go out for work. And considering most of the time I step out for work, I take a bath most of the time. It is only when I am not stepping out or when I am on a holiday that I don't take a bath."
