Mac Mohan also known as Mohan Makijany was an Indian actor who mainly played villainous roles in hindi movies. He appeared in more than 200 movies, including Sholay (1975), Don (1978), Karz (1980), Satte Pe Satta (1982), Zanjeer (1973), Rafoo Chakkar (1975), Shaan (1980), and Khoon Pasina (1977).
Mac Mohan was born on April 24, 1938 in Karachi, Sind, British India. His father worked in the British Indian Army.
He wanted to become a cricketer and he came to bombay to pursue his dream but joined theatre and became an actor.
He did graduation from Jai Hind College, Mumbai and he also played for the university cricket team. While studying in the college, he did a play with Shaukat Azmi, mother of Shabana Azmi. He was encouraged by her to join Indian People Theater Association (IPTA).
He learned acting at the Filmalaya School of Acting in Bombay.
Mac Mohan started his film career as an assistant to director Chetan Anand, before making his acting debut in Junglee (1961). His last appearance was in Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge (2010) in a guest appearance.
He was picked to do a cameo in Aao Pyar Karen (1964) and he can be seen without his beard, dancing in the song "Jhuki Jhuki Nigahen". It is one of the few films in which he can be seen without a beard.
Mac Mohan is famous for playing the role of Gabbar's henchman Sambha in Ramesh Sippy's blockbuster movie Sholay (1975). His dialogue "poore pachaas hazaar" in the movie is still famous.
He became synonymous with the bad guy's henchman. He was also the rare actor whose real name was used as his character's name in most of his films.
Mac Mohan met Minny when Mac Mohan's father was admitted to Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai. He got married to Minny on June 30, 1986. They have a son Vikrant Makijany and two daughter, Manjari Makijany & Vinati Makijany.
In November 2009, Mac Mohan was admitted to the Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital after his health deteriorated. He had a tumour in the right lung, which became lung cancer. He died on May 10, 2010.
Mac Mohan was the maternal uncle of actress Raveena Tandon.
He was Sunil Dutt's classmate in school.
Mac Mohan was in a relationship with actress Gita Siddharth Kak for a long time.
He was very particular about his clothes before getting into the industry. People would often call him "Kadak Ram" because his clothes were always on point, well ironed and fitting perfectly.
