She is actor Kabir Bedi‘s niece and actress Pooja Bedi‘s cousin.
Brinda was born on 23 March 1977 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India to the late Indian artist and sculptor Shakti Maira and teacher Gulhima Bedi. She is of Punjabi Sikh and British ancestry on her mother’s side.
Tragically, her elder brother, Shiv Maira (December 2, 1973 – March 20, 2000), passed away at the young age of 26 at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, United States. ²
Brinda is a certified registered craniosacral therapist (RCST), having trained under Scott Zamurut at the Santa Fe School of Massage (formerly the Scherer Institute of Natural Healing) in New Mexico, United States. ³
In the early 2000s, Brinda’s parents divorced. Following the divorce, her mother, Gulhima Bedi, married Sam Scales, while her father, Shakti Maira, married Swati Chopra. ⁴
Shakti Maira passed away on 9 May 2021 in New Delhi, due to complications resulting from a long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was 73 years old. ⁵
