Bhagwant Mann is an Indian politician, actor & comedian. He is currently serving as the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab. Mann was born on October 17, 1973 in a Jat Sikh family to Mahinder Singh and Harpal Kaur in Satoj village of Sangrur district, Punjab, India. He has a sister Manpreet Kaur, who works as a Punjabi language teacher in Budha Dal Public School, Patiala, Punjab. He also had younger brother who died at the age of just five years due to stomach cancer.
His father, Mahinder Singh worked as a science teacher in a government school in Tolawal village, Sangrur, Punjab. He passed away in 2011.

Mann studied at a local school in Satoj till the 6th standard. After that he did his 7th to 9th standard study at government school in Tolawal village, Sangrur where his father worked as a teacher. He completed his study from 9th to 12th standard in a school in Cheema, Sangrur.
After completing his school education, he enrolled into Bachelor of Commerce course in Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Sunam (Sangrur), Punjab. During his college days, he started actively participating in various youth festivals & inter-college competitions. Famous Punjabi actor and singer, Karamjit Anmol was his batchmate during his college days.
He started accompanying Punjabi folk singers Muhammad Sadiq and Ranjit Kaur to their stage shows during the weekends to gain some experience. After his career took off, he quit the college in his second year.
His first comedy audio album "Gobhi Diye Kachiye Vaparanay" was released by Creative Music Company in 1992. It was a satire talking about inflation and corruption.
He made his acting debut in the punjabi movie Tabaahi (1993). After that he went into act in several punjabi movies including Kachehari (1994), Nain Preeto De (1995), Main Maa Punjab Dee (1998), Ekam – Son of Soil (2010), Hero Hitler in Love (2011), Moga to Melbourne Via Chandigarh (2014), Police in Pollywood (2014) and 22g Tussi Ghaint Ho (2015). Mann also acted in the bollywood movie Apne (2007).
His movie Main Maa Punjab Dee (1998) directed by Balwant Dullat won the National award for Best Film in Punjabi.
In 2008, Mann appeared as a contestant in the reality stand-up comedy show "Great Indian Laughter Challenge" on Star Plus.

He left the People's Party of Punjab in March 2014 and joined Aam Aadmi Party. He contested Lok Sabha election from Sangrur constituency in 2014 and won by securing 533,237 votes.
In 2017, Mann was appointed as the convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab. He contested Punjab Assembly elections from the Jalalabad Assembly Constituency but lost to Shiromani Akali Dal's Sukhbir Singh Badal by 18,500 votes.
He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 Indian general election by a margin of 110,211 votes.
Mann contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections from the Dhuri Assembly constituency and won by a big margin of 58,206 votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 92 seats out of total 117 seats and Bhagwant Mann took oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab on 16 March 2022.

He was criticized many times in the past by political rivals and was even given moniker "Pegwant Mann" due to his drinking habits. In 2019, during a party rally he swore that he will never touch alcohol again.
Bhagwant Mann got married to Dr. Gurpreet Kaur in a private ceremony on 7th July, 2022 in Chandigarh at his official residence. He was earlier married to Inderpreet Kaur until their divorce in 2015 and they have a son, Dilshan Mann and a daughter, Seerat Kaur Mann who are currently staying in the US with their mother.
