Akshay Kumar is an Indian actor and producer who works mainly in hindi movies. He has worked in more than 100 film in an acting career spanning over three decades and has won several awards, including a National Film Award for Best Actor and 2 Filmfare Awards.
Akshay was born on September 9, 1967 in a Punjabi hindu family to Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia in Amritsar, Punjab. He also has a sister, Alka Bhatia. He grew up in Delhi's Chandni Chowk but later moved to Koliwada, Mumbai.
His father, Hari Om Bhatia was an army officer.
He completed his school education from Don Bosco High School, Matunga. He enrolled in Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Mumbai for graduation but dropped out of college.
After obtaining a black belt in Taekwondo in india, he went to Bangkok, Thailand for learning martial arts and lived there for five years. He worked as a chef and waiter during his stay in Thailand.
After returning from Thailand, he started working in a travel agency in Kolkata and later in Kundan jewellery, New Delhi. Then returned to Mumbai where he started teaching martial arts. The father of one of his students recommended him into a modelling agency which got his first modelling assignment for a furniture showroom.
Akshay Kumar was first signed by Pramod Chakravarti for Deedar (1992), but his first release was Saugandh (1991) opposite Shantipriya.
His first commercial success was in Abbas Mustan-directed suspense thriller Khiladi (1992) opposite Ayesha Jhulka. This was first his film which had Khiladi in the title, later on he worked in movies like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi (1997), International Khiladi (1999), Khiladi 420 (2000) and Khiladi 786 (2012).
He won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain for his negative role in Ajnabee (2001) & Best Comedian for Garam Masala (2005).
Akshay Kumar got married to actress Twinkle Khanna on 17 January 2001. The couple has a son, Aarav Kumar Bhatia and a daughter, Nitara Kumar Bhatia.
In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
There was a controversy in 2009 when his wife, Twinkle Khanna unbuttoned his jeans during Lakme Fashion Week. A complaint was filed against the couple and the event organizers for obscenity.
In 2017, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rustom (2016).
In 2020, he was listed as the 6th highest paid actor in the world by Forbes. Akshay was the only Bollywood star on the list.

He had auditioned for Deepak Tijori's role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) but was not selected.
His first role in a movie was a 15 second role as a Karate Instructor in the film Aaj (1987) starring Raj Babbar, Smita Patil, Kumar Gaurav and Raj Kiran. Akshay was the name of the character played by Kumar Gaurav. After the movie her decided to change his name from Rajiv Bhatia to Akshay Kumar.
He was in a relationship with Nipunika Sobti (daughter of Praveen Kumar Sobti known for playing the role of Bheem in BR Chopra's television show Mahabharat) in 1997.
Akshay dated model Dimple Varma in 1991. She is the niece of Anand Mahindra as her father was his first cousin.

Some people even compared his look in the movie to his character of Bala from Housefull 4. Chandraprakash Dwivedi directed movie will be released in theatres on 3 June 2022.
In 2022, Akshay Kumar got trolled after joining Ajay Devgan and Shah Rukh Khan in Vimal Elaichi ad. Post the release of the ad, people took to social media to express their disappointment about the actor's choice to endorse the product and a video also went viral in which Akshay stated that he had several offers from gutka companies, but he didn't want to endorse the category and hence turned down those offers even though they were lucrative.
